In Pilates strength is nothing without control

I’ve always been keen on health and fitness and I became interested in Pilates after I was diagnosed with a back condition. I had been working as a nurse in London, but my back problems forced a change in career. It also coincided with even bigger life changes: getting married, moving up to Yorkshire and having two children! I initially retrained as an exercise-to-music teacher and quickly realised the fun and fulfillment that exercise and teaching can bring. Qualifying as a Pilates teacher was an obvious next step for me, combining my interest in health and body conditioning with teaching. There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing the progress of clients who, through practising Pilates regularly, learn to manage and overcome different and challenging health issues.

I am a qualified Body Control Instructor.

Body Control is widely recognised as the international benchmark for Pilates teaching. All teachers are required to adhere to its code of practice and receive continuous education. I have also done  courses with other leading Pilates Organisations including MK Pilates and APPI.

I regularly attend courses and workshops to enhance my medical knowledge and understanding of specific fitness and medical issues, such as rehabilitation after breast cancer, hip replacement, lower back conditions, osteoporosis and also how Pilates can help runners, golfers and horse riders.

In 2019 I passed my Reformer exam with MK Pilates, another widely recognised organisation.

“Sophie has reawakened my interest in Pilates after a lapse due to seat belt injury. She is enthusiastic and bubbly, which makes the class fun. Also, Sophie is constantly aware of the different abilities of the class and encourages everyone to work at a level suitable for them. Already I feel a difference in my back and neck, and I feel sure that Pilates will help me to regain strength and mobility.”
